Video quality: what to expect

Instagram stores videos at different quality levels depending on the original upload and the viewer's connection. When you use this tool, you get the highest quality version available from Instagram's servers. For most standard video posts, that means 720p or 1080p resolution. Some older uploads or heavily compressed content might be lower.

One thing worth knowing: Instagram applies its own compression when creators upload. So even if someone uploaded a 4K video, Instagram downsizes it. The video you download reflects Instagram's stored version, not the original file from the creator's camera.

Video vs. photo downloads

Videos from IG download as MP4 files, which play on every device and media player out there. Photos come as JPG or WEBP. If you paste a link to a post that has both photos and video (a carousel), the tool will detect and offer the video component.
