Instagram stories vanish after 24 hours. If you see something you want to keep, whether it's a recipe, a recommendation, an event announcement, or just a funny moment, you've got a small window to grab it. This IG story downloader lets you save stories from public accounts before they're gone for good.

How story downloading works

Stories are different from regular posts. They don't have a simple shareable URL the way feed posts do. To download a story, you'll need the username of the account. Enter it above, and the tool fetches whatever stories that account currently has active. You can then pick which ones to save.

The files download as either MP4 (for video stories) or JPG (for photo stories). What you get is the full-resolution version Instagram stores, including any text overlays, stickers, or filters the creator applied. Those are baked into the media file and can't be separated out.

Anonymous viewing

When you view someone's story on Instagram, they can see you in the viewer list. This tool fetches the story content without using your Instagram account, so the creator won't know you viewed it. Your name won't appear in their story viewers. This only applies to public accounts, as there's no way to access private account stories without being a follower.

What you can and can't download

• Public account stories that are currently active: yes
• Stories from private accounts: no, not possible without being a logged-in follower
• Expired stories (past 24 hours): no, they're deleted from Instagram's servers
• Story highlights: these are separate from regular stories and may work if publicly accessible

Saving stories on mobile

On Android, downloaded story files go to your Downloads folder automatically. On iPhone, check the Files app under Downloads. If you're using Safari, the file might appear in the downloads indicator at the top of the browser. Tap it and choose where to save.

Being honest about limitations

No tool can recover a story after it's expired. Once those 24 hours pass, Instagram deletes the content from their servers. If you missed it, it's gone. Highlights are different since creators choose to keep those up permanently, but standard stories have a firm expiration. Don't rely on finding them later.
