Stories don't last. You've got 24 hours before they're gone, and Instagram doesn't give you an easy way to save other people's stories. This tool fixes that. Grab the story link, paste it here, and download the file before the clock runs out.

Exact steps to download an Instagram Story

1. Open the Instagram app and view the story you want to save
2. Tap the three-dot icon in the bottom right corner
3. Tap "Copy Link" from the menu
4. Switch to your browser and open this page
5. Paste the link and click download
6. Save the file to your device

On Android, the file lands in your Downloads folder. On iPhone, check the Files app. Desktop browsers will save to your default download location.

What you're actually downloading

Story videos save as MP4 files, usually at 720p resolution. Photo stories save as JPEG images at 1080x1920 resolution. What you see in the app is what you get in the file, including any stickers, text, filters, or music that was baked into the story.

The 24-hour problem

Instagram designed stories to be temporary. That's fine for casual sharing, but it's a pain when someone posts something time-sensitive like an address, a sale price, or instructions you need later. Downloading the story means you've got a permanent copy you can reference whenever you need it.

Does this work on all stories?

It works on stories from public accounts. If the account is private and you aren't following them, you won't be able to access the story through this tool. Also, stories that have already expired (past the 24-hour mark) can't be downloaded. The content is deleted from Instagram's servers at that point.

Privacy considerations

Using this tool to download a story doesn't register as a view on the poster's viewer list. That said, don't use this for anything sketch. Downloading someone's story to monitor them or repost their content without credit isn't cool. Use it for saving useful information, keeping memories, or archiving your own content.

Tips for saving stories reliably

• Download sooner rather than later. Don't wait until hour 23.
• If the link doesn't work, make sure you copied it correctly from the three-dot menu.
• For stories with multiple frames, you'll need to copy each frame's link individually.
• Check that the account hasn't gone private since you last saw the story.
