Instagram compresses every photo that gets uploaded, but it still keeps a reasonably high-quality version on its servers. This Instagram photo downloader grabs that version and saves it to your device. It's the best quality you can get without having the original file.

Single photos and carousels

Most photo posts work the same way: paste the link, click download, save the image. Carousel posts, the ones with multiple photos you swipe through, are a bit different. The tool detects carousels automatically and shows you each image separately so you can download the ones you want.

What resolution to expect

Instagram caps photos at 1080 pixels wide for feed posts, or 1080x1350 for portrait orientation. Square posts max out at 1080x1080. That's the highest resolution the platform stores, so that's what you get. If the original photo was lower resolution, you'll get whatever Instagram has.

Why not just screenshot?

Screenshots are easy, but the quality is terrible. Your screenshot captures whatever resolution your screen displays, which is usually compressed further by Instagram's app. A screenshot of a photo on an iPhone might be 390 pixels wide. The actual file from Instagram is 1080 pixels wide. That's almost three times the detail. If you care about image quality at all, downloading is better than screenshotting.
