How the extension works
Saving a reel on a computer usually means copying the link from the address bar and pasting it into a downloader. The extension does that part: three clicks from the Instagram page to the download.

Pin it
New extensions wait in the puzzle-piece menu next to the address bar: click the pin next to GetSocialVideo, and its icon stays in view. It lights up on Instagram.

The reel or post you're on, the account's profile picture, or any other post on the page. It opens on GetIGVideo with the link filled in and looked up.

Is the GetSocialVideo extension free?

How is it different from pasting a link?
It does the copying for you. On an Instagram page, click its icon and pick the reel, the post, the profile or any other post on the page: GetIGVideo opens with that link filled in and looked up, so you go straight to the download.
Does it work in Microsoft Edge?
Yes. It's on Edge Add-ons, Microsoft's own store: open its listing in Edge, click Get, then Add extension.
Where is the icon after I install it?
Chrome and Edge put new extensions in the puzzle-piece menu next to the address bar. Open it and click the pin next to GetSocialVideo to keep the icon in the toolbar. It's muted on other sites and lights up on Instagram, TikTok and X.
Can it download Instagram stories?
Yes, from public accounts: open the story and click the icon. It opens on GetIGVideo, which saves the story's video or photo before it expires. Story highlights can't be downloaded: Instagram shows them only to logged-in accounts, so the extension says so instead.
Do I need to log in to Instagram?
No. The extension reads the page you have open, logged in or not, and GetIGVideo needs no Instagram account for public posts. Neither ever asks for your Instagram password.
Does it work on TikTok and X too?
Yes. The same icon lights up on TikTok and X. Videos, posts and profiles from there open on our sister sites, gettikvideo.com and getxtwittervideo.com, in the same way Instagram posts open here.
Does it work in Firefox or Safari?
Not yet. In Firefox, Safari or any other browser, copy the Instagram link and paste it on getigvideo.com: you get the same downloads.
Can I use it on my phone?
No, the extension works on computers only. On a phone, copy the link in Instagram (the share button, then Copy link) and paste it on getigvideo.com. It works in every mobile browser.
What can the extension see?
Only the page you click its icon on. It asks for three permissions: activeTab and scripting let it read the page you're on when you click, and declarativeContent lets Chrome itself light up the icon on Instagram, TikTok and X pages. It can't see which sites you visit, sends nothing on its own, and installing it shows no permission warning.
Can it download from private accounts?
No. It works with public posts, like GetIGVideo itself. Posts and stories from private accounts can't be downloaded.
